The Hawks Prairie Rotarian 3/18/02 Well, Hawk's Prairie Rotarians, if you weren't there, you missed one heck of a celebration! What's that you say? What was it? I'm talking about the Paul Harris Medallion Dinner that was held last Thursday at The West Coast Hotel. First of all, it was LAST WEEK'S MEETING! If you showed up at King Oscar's motel on Friday, you might have found, that we didn't have a meeting there. Second of all the Paul Harris Medallion Dinner featured such speakers as Ralph Munro, who is the President-elect of Seattle #4. He introduced Tom Vanderark, who is the guy in charge of spending the money for the Gates Foundation(yes, Bill and Melinda Gates). He was very informative, and very complimentary of Rotary, and all that it does to promote worldwide health, and youth involvement. Then we heard from District Governor Don Lachata, who made over 111 awards presentations, and while it sounds like a long ordeal, it went really fast. It was good to see how many Rotarians in the area were succeeding in their Paul Harris Goals. Almost the entire Hawks Prairie Rotary contingent was called up and given awards, and after we all got up, we sang the Hawk's Prairie Rotary Song! It seemed to delight everyone there, most of all the Hawk's Prairie Rotarians &&oh well. If you did miss it, you did miss a good time. President Joseph Beaulieu(First Community Bank) was the MC, plus those attending from the Hawk's Prairie Club were: Jim Rydland(North Thurston School District), Shawn Lewis,(North Thurston School District) Bill Bryant(President Elect) Lowell Gordon(Creative Office Furnishings) Dave Cherry (First Community Bank) Lee Paavola( Dean SPSCC) , Marie Sullivan(DOL), Bob Kagy(ABC Printing), Sandi Helton(Tanglewilde Properties), Michael Andritch(IBM), Marv Kopp(Edward Jones), Sterling Stock(Windemere), Glenn Richardson(Country Insurance), John Vlastilica (Lakeside Graphics), Joe Chiapinno (PDG 5160) and Myself( I'm sure I missed a few, I'll get you next time!) . We won the prize for having the most (%) Rotarians in attendance. Next year, make your plans to be there! NEXT WEEK'S MEETING: This Friday promises to be an exciting meeting, make your plans now to be there! Joe Chiappino(PDG 5160) tells me that we've got Dennis Mahar from Leadership Thurston County, which is one of President Joseph's favorite subjects, to explain what's going on for next year's awards & program. The Getting to know YOU segment, Jan Wallace tells me that Lowell Gordon of Creative Office Furnishings will be telling us all about himself! That should prove to be very interesting. &&.Don't miss it! Friday March 22nd at King Oscar's Motel at exit 111 at Hawk's Prairie. Great Food, Great Fun, and a Great Time! Til Next Time Greg Stevens Editor
